Workshops and Working Groups
COMPASS hosts workshops to engage diverse groups of scientists to synthesize existing science, generate new research agendas, seed new collaborations, or explore ways to more effectively connect emerging science to policy audiences. We also host larger meetings that bring together scientists, policymakers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other stakeholders to foster dialogue on policy-relevant science issues.
A few highlights of our recent work include:
- Hosting a retreat for ten scholars and practitioners to discuss the diversity of ways to define success and how to communicate success through synthesis and story.
- Convening ecologists, economists, oceanographers, and social scientists to explore more effective communication of the the science of ecosystem services to decision makers.
- Assembling oceanographers, ecologists, and fisheries scientists to synthesize the effects of climate change on marine ecosystems.
- Working in conjunction with UC Santa Cruz to sponsor a Science Advisory Committee for the California Current EBM Initiative.
