Public Comments on National Ocean Policy Strategic Action Plans

To inform National Ocean Policy implementation with the latest science of ecosystem services, in March of 2011, COMPASS faciliatated submission of synthetic public comments from 16 scientists from diverse backgrounds and academic institutions. This is part of a broader COMPASS effort to connect science and scientists to the National Ocean Council's (NOC) developing plans and priorites.

New Book: Ecosystem-Based Management for the Oceans

Co-edited by our Director of Science, Karen McLeod, and Heather Leslie (Brown University), with a foreword by Jane Lubchenco (NOAA), this book features contributions from 46 leading scholars and practitioners. Drawing from the latest science, policy, and practice, it simultaneously serves as a primer, a conceptual synthesis, a practical guide, and a roadmap for the future.

New synthesis: Climate change impacts on marine ecosystems

This recent paper from the COMPASS Climate Change Initiative takes a comprehensive look at the effects of climate change on marine ecosystems, including three illustrative examples focused on polar seas, the California Current, and coral reefs.
