COMPASS, along with Oregon Ocean, Surfrider Foundation, and Oceana, hosted a workshop for managers, policy makers, scientists, NGO representatives, and government officials to examine Oregon's unique governance structure and look for pathways to operationalize EBM. Workshop participants explored 1) the need for new mandates within government agencies, 2) how to work within current management structures to foster EBM, 3) how community-based EBM efforts and non-governmental organizations can couple with government programs, and 4) the need for innovative sources of dedicated funding to implement changes in ocean management.
