The group discussed how to develop concrete, measurable, enforceable indicators and standards for marine ecosystem health, and proposed some useful starting points that may be carried forward by a subsequent scientific working group. Other productive threads of discussion included how to retrofit existing laws or develop new statutes in order to enable and/or compel comprehensive and integrated coastal and ocean management. The geographic focus for this meeting was both the state of California and the federal level. For questions regarding this workshop, please contact Karen McLeod. Summaries from this workshop will be available soon. Links to the materials included in the background binder are below.
