Communications Training

Scientists can be powerful communicators of their work, but scientific training rarely focuses on how to effectively convey research findings to journalists, policy makers, or other public audiences. Our trainings teach scientists to communicate their work in a clear, lively manner that will resonate with audiences outside of their fields.

Customized for the needs and interests of specific groups, COMPASS communication trainings are highly interactive and range from one-on-one tutorials to multi-day workshops for large conferences. Recent trainings include:
  • The design and facilitation of week-long workshops at the Aldo Leopold Leadership Program and the Pew Marine Conservation Fellows meetings.
  • Interactive lectures for faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students at Stanford University, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Duke University, Yale University and Princeton University.
  • Short workshops for interdisciplinary science fellowship programs.
  • Personalized coaching for individual scientists.
  • Multi-day workshops for international science programs such as the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and the Tropical Ecology, Assessment and Monitoring Initiative.
